Xenith LOOP debuts at #1 on Virginia Tech Flag Football Headgear Ratings
November 6, 2019 (DETROIT, MI) – Today, Xenith announced the launch of its non-tackle football headgear offering, Xenith LOOP. Xenith LOOP is the industry’s first purpose-built protective headgear made specifically for the sport. Combining athlete insights and an unprecedented level of research into non-tackle football, Xenith LOOP is the most comfortable and best performing non-tackle headgear on the market. Learn more about the origin of Xenith LOOP HERE.
“Non-tackle football” includes flag football, 7v7, passing league, and other forms of touch and non-tackle football. Schools and tackle football programs across the country are increasingly requiring non-contact practices as part of their season, and according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), participation in all forms of non-tackle football are on the rise. These trends represent rapidly growing and evolving aspects of the football category accounting for more athletes than ever now playing some form of football, and participating in the sport year-round.
“With the growth of non-tackle, football is more present in an athlete’s life than ever before. Creating a protective solution specifically engineered for non-tackle is a necessity for athletes and a challenge we were excited to take on,” said Ryan Sullivan, Xenith CEO. “Xenith LOOP is an important part of the Xenith portfolio of products which elevate the athlete’s pursuit in playing, training, and living.”
The pioneering halo silhouette of Xenith LOOP creates a breathable, precision fit that accommodates any hairstyle and stays in place throughout the game without the need for a chinstrap. The shape addresses top athlete insights Xenith heard during its research including issues with the fit, breathability, and look of existing products used for non-tackle football.
This halo form was informed and developed through rigorous research including innovative video tracking which allowed the Xenith team to analyze the incidental impacts taking place on the field of play, as well as the placement, frequency, and speed of these impacts. On-field tests were conducted at multiple indoor and outdoor facilities during competitive play.
“Our team at Xenith conducted an unprecedented level of research utilizing industry-first video capture and tracking technologies to reconstruct the incidental contact observed on the non-tackle football field,” said Grant C. Goulet, PhD, Xenith Vice President of Product Innovation. “By developing such a deep understanding of what the athlete needs on the field, we were able to create the first purpose-built headgear designed and engineered specifically for this sport; from the silhouette, to the protective material, to the knit, we started with a blank slate to create the best possible product for the non-tackle football athlete.”
Xenith worked with material science experts BASF to develop KINETIX, Xenith LOOP’s proprietary protection solution which was thoughtfully designed and engineered for the non-tackle field. KINETIX custom forms to the athlete’s head for all-game comfort, but adapts its stiffness to control energy across the range of impact speeds measured on the field. Combined with the VersaKnit exterior, Xenith LOOP is a lightweight, breathable, comfortable, and high-performing protective solution.
Xenith LOOP makes its debut at number one on the 2019 Virginia Tech Flag Football Headgear Ratings receiving a “5-Star” rating.
Xenith and its Scientific Advisory Board are leading the industry in research into non-tackle football. Xenith’s research will be published open-source through the BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine in an effort to increase knowledge and education around this rapidly growing sport. Xenith’s Scientific Advisory Board is made up of independent experts in athlete health and wellness, neurology, biomechanics, and sport technology, ultimately furthering Xenith’s commitment to providing the best performance and protective solutions to athletes at all levels of competition.
Xenith LOOP will make its on-field debut at the Pro Football Hall of Fame World Bowl Presented by Xenith in December 2019. For the full press release, click here.

The outdoor sports venue opened with sports demonstrations, a festival atmosphere, and a full calendar of events booked for the coming year.
(Clearwater, FL) October 15, 2019 – Days before the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Michael’s devastating landfall, the community of Panama City Beach celebrated the grand opening of the Panama City Beach Sports (PCB) Complex. The 160-acre project suffered early challenges in construction following the Category 5 hurricane in 2018, but thanks to the hard work of the construction and Sports Facilities Management (SFM) operations teams, dedicated staff, and the support of the Panama City Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, the complex welcomed thousands for an on-time grand opening event. This wasn’t the facility’s first event, however. The complex has already hosted a slew of sports events including several that were slated for other area venues too damaged by the storm to fulfill the original bookings.
Jason Clement, Founder and CEO of the SFM said, “The entire team pulled together including the sports complex staff, the Visit Panama City Beach staff and the construction team in reaching a new gear to open on time. The complex is not only a first-class venue located at one of the world’s best beaches, but it is an example for what this community is capable of when working together. The events we have attracted and subsequent families visiting the area are already bolstering the economic vitality and spurring additional development. We are so proud to partner with Bay County and Panama City Beach on this industry-leading destination.”
At the heart of this development is the desire to bring new visitors to the city and surrounding region. Already, the SFM team at the complex has reached and exceeded their booking pace for events in year one; bringing in 50 events through summer 2020 and has created and executed unique marketing relationships with local businesses. The complex is expected to generate more than $13 million in new market spending from visitors in year one and spur job growth.
At Saturday’s open house-style event, the SFM facility team coordinated remarks from local officials and project partners, live music, giveaways, and live demonstrations from local sports clubs and leagues featuring lacrosse, soccer, quidditch, baseball, and more. Thousands gathered to experience the brand-new sports venue and celebrate this momentous achievement.
“This project has been a long time coming and our team at Visit Panama City Beach is incredibly proud of the complex,” said Visit Panama City Beach president and CEO, Dan Rowe. “Through our public-private partnerships, this complex will enhance the amenities we already have for visitors to Panama City Beach as well as our residents. It puts our beach destination on the map in a whole new way.”
SFM General Manager J.D. Wood added, “Our team has been working tremendously hard to open our facility on time for Bay County and its visitors. We are committed to providing a level of service that is exceptional and represents our city in the best way. Huntington Beach, CA: Today, two-time Olympic swimmer and TYR Sport co-founder Steve Furniss, announced his retirement after 34 years at the company. Furniss launched TYR in 1985 and helped transform the company into one of the world’s leading aquatic performance brands.
Steve began his sports business career in Landersheim, France, working for legendary Adidas owner, Horst Dassler. He then served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Arena USA before co-founding TYR Sport with swimwear designer Joseph DiLorenzo. From the company’s beginning, TYR has focused on providing the competitive swim market with vibrant, performance driven prints and innovative swim training equipment. Named for the Norse god of warriors and athletes, TYR has grown to exist as one of the world’s most recognizable swimming and triathlon brands relied on by Olympic greats Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel, Matt Grevers, Ryan Lochte and Ironman World Champions Mirinda Carfrae and Craig Alexander. TYR products are distributed in more than 30 countries and the company is the second largest performance swimwear brand in North America.
Furniss was named Inc. Magazine’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” for Orange County in 1994. He is the recipient of the 2014 Endurance Live Industry Award for his contributions to the sports of swimming and triathlon and was inducted into the Aquatic Capital of America Hall of Fame in 2019. He served on the Board of Directors of the Sports and Fitness Industry and on the Executive Committee of its predecessor, the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, from 1999 to 2013. Steve graduated cum laude with a degree in marketing from the University of Southern California.
Furniss credits much of his entrepreneurial success to his years as an athlete. “Failure for me was often a matter of running out of time or the race not being long enough before others quit,” he said. “Fear never dictated my mindset, but persistence did.” Furniss earned a bronze medal in the 200-meter individual medley at the Munich Games in 1972. He also served as co-captain of the dominant 1976 Men’s swimming team, which won 12 out of the 13 men’s swimming events held in Montreal.
Over the course of his swimming career, Steve set two world records, won four NCAA individual titles and helped earn three NCAA team titles while competing for USC. Steve was named to the Pac 12 All-Century Swim Team and was also a two-time All-American Water Polo player. He swam under coaching greats Jon Urbanchek, Tom DeLong, Flip Darr, Peter Daland and Dick Jochums. While swimming for Long Beach Swim Club, Steve, alongside Tim Shaw, Rex Favero and his brother, two-time Olympic gold medalist Bruce Furniss, to set the 800-meter Freestyle Relay World Record. This marks the last time a club team, not a National or Olympic team, set and held a relay world record, a feat not replicated in 44 years.
Married for 43 years, Furniss plans to spend more time with his family and four grandchildren. Furniss leaves an indelible mark on the competitive swimming industry both as both an athlete and entrepreneur.
