We also know from research that variety plays a role in keeping people engaged, motivated and ultimately successful.”

The outdoor sports venue opened with sports demonstrations, a festival atmosphere, and a full calendar of events booked for the coming year.

(Clearwater, FL) October 15, 2019 – Days before the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Michael’s devastating landfall, the community of Panama City Beach celebrated the grand opening of the Panama City Beach Sports (PCB) Complex.  The 160-acre project suffered early challenges in construction following the Category 5 hurricane in 2018, but thanks to the hard work of the construction and Sports Facilities Management (SFM) operations teams, dedicated staff, and the support of the Panama City Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, the complex welcomed thousands for an on-time grand opening event. This wasn’t the facility’s first event, however. The complex has already hosted a slew of sports events including several that were slated for other area venues too damaged by the storm to fulfill the original bookings.

Jason Clement, Founder and CEO of the SFM said, “The entire team pulled together including the sports complex staff, the Visit Panama City Beach staff and the construction team in reaching a new gear to open on time. The complex is not only a first-class venue located at one of the world’s best beaches, but it is an example for what this community is capable of when working together. The events we have attracted and subsequent families visiting the area are already bolstering the economic vitality and spurring additional development. We are so proud to partner with Bay County and Panama City Beach on this industry-leading destination.”

At the heart of this development is the desire to bring new visitors to the city and surrounding region. Already, the SFM team at the complex has reached and exceeded their booking pace for events in year one; bringing in 50 events through summer 2020 and has created and executed unique marketing relationships with local businesses. The complex is expected to generate more than $13 million in new market spending from visitors in year one and spur job growth.

At Saturday’s open house-style event, the SFM facility team coordinated remarks from local officials and project partners, live music, giveaways, and live demonstrations from local sports clubs and leagues featuring lacrosse, soccer, quidditch, baseball, and more. Thousands gathered to experience the brand-new sports venue and celebrate this momentous achievement.

“This project has been a long time coming and our team at Visit Panama City Beach is incredibly proud of the complex,” said Visit Panama City Beach president and CEO, Dan Rowe. “Through our public-private partnerships, this complex will enhance the amenities we already have for visitors to Panama City Beach as well as our residents. It puts our beach destination on the map in a whole new way.”

SFM General Manager J.D. Wood added, “Our team has been working tremendously hard to open our facility on time for Bay County and its visitors. We are committed to providing a level of service that is exceptional and represents our city in the best way. We are thankful for the support from Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, Bay County Chamber of Commerce, Visit Panama City Beach, St. Joe Company and the hard-working construction team from Anchor CEI. We are excited to open our facility with more than 50 events on the calendar and key sponsor relationships. I feel blessed to live and work in Panama City Beach and open this facility to athletes and their families year-round.”

In addition to hosting national-caliber events such as the US Youth Soccer South Region Cross Conference Series and the Soccer Youth All-American Series, the sports complex team also plans to add opportunities for local residents to play various sports at the facility.

Huntington Beach, CA: Today, two-time Olympic swimmer and TYR Sport co-founder Steve Furniss, announced his retirement after 34 years at the company. Furniss launched TYR in 1985 and helped transform the company into one of the world’s leading aquatic performance brands.

Steve began his sports business career in Landersheim, France, working for legendary Adidas owner, Horst Dassler. He then served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Arena USA before co-founding TYR Sport with swimwear designer Joseph DiLorenzo. From the company’s beginning, TYR has focused on providing the competitive swim market with vibrant, performance driven prints and innovative swim training equipment. Named for the Norse god of warriors and athletes, TYR has grown to exist as one of the world’s most recognizable swimming and triathlon brands relied on by Olympic greats Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel, Matt Grevers, Ryan Lochte and Ironman World Champions Mirinda Carfrae and Craig Alexander. TYR products are distributed in more than 30 countries and the company is the second largest performance swimwear brand in North America.

Furniss was named Inc. Magazine’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” for Orange County in 1994. He is the recipient of the 2014 Endurance Live Industry Award for his contributions to the sports of swimming and triathlon and was inducted into the Aquatic Capital of America Hall of Fame in 2019.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Sports and Fitness Industry and on the Executive Committee of its predecessor, the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, from 1999 to 2013. Steve graduated cum laude with a degree in marketing from the University of Southern California.

Furniss credits much of his entrepreneurial success to his years as an athlete. “Failure for me was often a matter of running out of time or the race not being long enough before others quit,” he said. “Fear never dictated my mindset, but persistence did.” Furniss earned a bronze medal in the 200-meter individual medley at the Munich Games in 1972. He also served as co-captain of the dominant 1976 Men’s swimming team, which won 12 out of the 13 men’s swimming events held in Montreal.

Over the course of his swimming career, Steve set two world records, won four NCAA individual titles and helped earn three NCAA team titles while competing for USC. Steve was named to the Pac 12 All-Century Swim Team and was also a two-time All-American Water Polo player. He swam under coaching greats Jon Urbanchek, Tom DeLong, Flip Darr, Peter Daland and Dick Jochums.  While swimming for Long Beach Swim Club, Steve, alongside Tim Shaw, Rex Favero and his brother, two-time Olympic gold medalist Bruce Furniss, to set the 800-meter Freestyle Relay World Record. This marks the last time a club team, not a National or Olympic team, set and held a relay world record, a feat not replicated in 44 years.

Married for 43 years, Furniss plans to spend more time with his family and four grandchildren. Furniss leaves an indelible mark on the competitive swimming industry both as both an athlete and entrepreneur.

Led by British Model Iskra Lawrence, TRX Intensifies Its Ongoing Mission to Democratize Fitness Regardless of Size, Shape, Ability or Resources

SAN FRANCISCO — Sept. 23rd 2019 — TRX®, the global leader in functional training equipment, world-class training content, and App-based training technology, is putting a stake in the ground, amidst a fitness culture characterized by exclusive social fitness trends and high-priced fitness solutions, with its new “ANYBODY, ANYWHERE” campaign. The campaign embraces the highly underserved community of mainstream consumers with a message of total inclusivity and a powerful reminder that everyone, regardless of their size, shape, age or athletic ability, has the power within them to unlock their own version of “best” with TRX providing the most simplistic and efficient means to do so.

For years, fitness brands and fitness trends have served up a narrow, highly aesthetic and largely unrealistic definition of what it means to be fit. This has been compounded by a modern fitness culture that is characterized by high-end or overly-aggressive and exclusive boutique fitness experiences or expensive home fitness equipment. The result has been a wide swath of mainstream consumers feeling unaddressed and left out in the cold.

In stark contrast to all of this, TRX is setting out to remind the world that real fitness comes in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and ability levels, and that we are all “perfectly imperfect.” Each of us has the power within us to find and unlock our own unique version of our best.

TRX’s ground-breaking Suspension Trainer was developed with simplicity and versatility at its core – all that’s required is your body. While the brand and its products have become established globally through the use of elite personal trainers, athletes and fitness die-hards, there remains a great deal of confusion and ambiguity amongst mainstream consumers about Suspension Training, with many people mistakenly believing it’s complicated or only for highly conditioned athletes. The truth is, Suspension Training’s greatest power resides in its simplicity and the ability to meet consumers wherever they physically may be, and deliver solutions that help the widest range of consumers and body types.

“In many ways, the fitness industry has done a disservice by significantly narrowing the playing field for getting fit and healthy, and we’re trying to remind everyone that fitness is personal and means something unique for each of us,” said Randy Hetrick, CEO & Founder of TRX. “Our mission is one of inclusivity – to be the one solution that truly everyone can find their own unique results. For most, it’s not about looking like a fitness model or an athlete, it’s about moving better, feeling better and, ultimately, living better.”

Combining simple, yet effective Functional Training exercises and workouts on the TRX® Suspension Trainer™ with informational and aspirational content, including training videos featuring prominent British “Body Acceptance Activist” Iskra Lawrence, the “ANYBODY, ANYWHERE” campaign strives to inspire and educate consumers on the wide array of benefits exercise provides, while encouraging inclusivity and a sense of community. The campaign challenges superficial stereotypes by encouraging a reality where everybody, regardless of their size or ability, can train effectively and efficiently to unlock the potential of their own unique bodies.

Lawrence, has been a highly outspoken advocate in the fight against body shaming – which she believes is a situation exacerbated by the stereotypical image of “fit” purveyed within the modern fitness culture. To kick off the campaign, Lawrence will join Hetrick in New York City for an “ANYBODY, ANYWHERE” rally cry workout and panel discussion, tackling a number of hot-button issues, including how the exclusive nature of today’s popular fitness trends, and the negative forces body shaming, ultimately contribute to widespread reduced levels of fitness.

“I’ve been a fan of TRX for several years and use the Suspension Trainer as part of my regular fitness routine, so when they came to me with the ‘ANYBODY, ANYWHERE’ concept, I jumped at the opportunity to help create an inclusive environment and build a stronger sense of community within the world of fitness,” said Lawrence. “I have first-hand experience of how exclusivity can negatively affect consumers and I want to be associated with and at the forefront of the positive change this campaign can bring to general consumers.”

The genius of TRX’s black-and-yellow straps resides in their simplicity and adaptability to varying ability levels. All that’s required is your body. By simply adjusting strap lengths and body angles, the TRX leverages body weight and natural movements to train the entire body, unlocking undiscovered strength in literally anyone. Because of its lightweight and ultra-simplistic design, the TRX straps can be utilized virtually anywhere – at home, on the road, inside or outside.
