SFIA Excelerator Program

A young professionals development initiative for emerging sports and fitness industry leaders representing varied communities.

Guided by principles of accessibility, inclusion, and industry engagement, the Excelerator Program plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of emerging leaders in the sports and fitness sector. SFIA Member organizations select Associates for hands-on training that builds leadership skills, expands industry networks, and strengthens career development.

Garvey Buchongo: Run Perception Researcher, Brooks

Garvey, a Run Perception Researcher at Brooks Running, also founded The Freedom to Run Project, creating equal access to athletics for underserved communities. With a kinesiology background, she leads product testing analysis while championing inclusion as co-founder of Brooks Soul, the company’s Black/African American ERG. Inspired by her grandmother’s naturopathic work, Garvey integrates physical, mental, and community well-being into her holistic approach to athletic performance.

Kaylee Burton: Social Media Manager, Rawlings Sporting Goods

Kaylee serves as Social Media Manager for Rawlings Sporting Goods’ fastpitch division, overseeing all Rawlings Softball and Easton Fastpitch social accounts. A former Heartland Hawks softball player, she holds degrees from Heartland Community College (Associate’s), Maryville University (Bachelor’s in Sport Business Management), and Illinois State University (Master’s in Sport Management). Outside work, Kaylee enjoys fitness and time with family and her dog, Benni.

Kayla DeAngelis: Product Developer, Cascade | Maverik Lacrosse

Kayla brings 3½ years of product development expertise to Cascade Maverik Lacrosse in Liverpool, NY. The Rochester Institute of Technology graduate holds a BFA in Industrial Design with a Minor in Packaging Science. Based in Syracuse, she balances her professional life with personal interests including tennis, hiking with friends, and textile/sewing projects. Kayla lives with her husband and their labradoodle, bringing creative design thinking to sporting equipment development.

Ashlea Miller: Director of Softball Development, Little League

Ashlea serves as Director of Softball Development for Little League International, leveraging 8 years of youth sports expertise. The Manchester University graduate (Sport Management and Communications) is a former collegiate athlete dedicated to creating barrier-free opportunities for young softball players. Her passion extends beyond work through traveling, exploring local coffee shops, reading, and hiking adventures with her husband and two dogs. Ashlea remains committed to inspiring the next generation.

Nico Mirandola: Senior Financial Analyst, Riddell

Nico, a Senior Financial Analyst at Riddell since June 2022, brings his Indiana University finance and accounting background to the sporting goods industry. His university experience as a football team equipment manager enhances his industry perspective. At Riddell, he specializes in performance analysis, budget building, and cost-saving initiatives while focusing on process improvements and relationship building. Outside work, Nico enjoys traveling with his fiancé, Cubs games, and podcasts.

Isaiah Norys: Talent Acquisition Manager, Wilson

Isaiah, an Illinois State University graduate (2021), started his career in biotech and pharmaceutical recruitment before joining Wilson Sporting Goods. After two years as a Talent Acquisition Partner, he advanced to Talent Acquisition Manager. This role perfectly merges his professional skills with personal interests in basketball, football, and golf. Isaiah looks forward to contributing to the Excelerator program while continuing to build Wilson’s talent pipeline.

Mat Quon: Co-Founder, LZRD Tech

Mat, an entrepreneur and business strategist, co-founded LZRD Tech, developing patented grip-enhancing compression apparel for athletes and workers. He also serves as an operations consultant for private equity, helping portfolio companies improve efficiency and growth. With a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and an MBA from Georgia Tech, Mat brings valuable expertise to sports and fitness innovation as a finalist in SFIA’s ’24 Start-Up Challenge.

Alyssa Rhodes: Purchasing Manager, BSN

Alyssa serves as Purchasing Manager at BSN Sports, building on her earlier role as a product manager with the company. Her background in apparel procurement provided valuable sourcing and supply chain expertise. A former competitive figure skater and coach, Alyssa developed strong leadership and teamwork abilities that enhance her professional capabilities. While skating shaped her past, hockey remains her favorite sport. Outside work, she enjoys reading, staying active, and life with her husband and four dogs.

Gabby Sears: Assistant Manager, E-Commerce Growth, Franklin

Gabby brings six years of digital marketing expertise to Franklin as a Digital Marketing Analyst specializing in multi-channel advertising strategies across retailers. Her work drives growth, e[iciency, and brand visibility by connecting consumers with sports products supporting athletes of all levels. This role perfectly blends her twin passions for data-driven marketing and sports. Outside work, Gabby enjoys traveling, volunteering, practicing yoga, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Sam Siciliano: Lead Athlete Insights Researcher, New Balance

Sam leads Athlete Insights Research at New Balance Sports Research Lab, bridging athlete needs with product innovation. With a B.S. in Engineering Psychology and M.S. in Marketing Analytics, she brings 2.5 years of sports industry expertise following five years in marketing research consulting. Outside work, Sam balances her passion for the Dodgers with attending Red Sox games at Fenway, while enjoying travel, beach volleyball, hiking, and time with loved ones.

The single most impactful component of my Excelerator Program experience was the Cohort. It’s rare to have the opportunity to meet with like-minded young professionals at similar stages in their career and be able to share similar experiences from different backgrounds and employers. I think those connections are the greatest takeaway from the program.
