Counterfeit Notification Act Senate Passage

(August 12, 2026) – The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) applauds the U.S. Senate’s unanimous passage of the Counterfeit Notification Act, federal legislation led by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) that streamlines and strengthens intellectual property (IP) enforcement by enhancing the ability of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to work directly with private sector partners to identify and stop counterfeit imports more effectively. The Senate’s passage of this bill comes after SFIA led an industry coalition letter in support of the bill last month. The Senate’s announcement can be found here: Senate Unanimously Passes Grassley-Hassan Bill to Combat Counterfeit Imports.

SFIA thanks Senator Grassley, Senator Hassan, and the sponsors of this bill in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Blake Moore and Congressman Brad Schneider, for their leadership on this important issue that helps uphold public safety and public health. The Counterfeit Notification Act is an important step forward to further strengthen IP protection and put consumers first. SFIA looks forward to working alongside our federal partners in the U.S. Congress and industry leaders to ensure that IP, public trust, and consumer health and safety are protected and upheld during this historic decade of global sporting events hosted in the United States.

SFIA serves as the voice of the sports and fitness industry, advocating for increased sports and fitness participation, improving affordability of and access to sports and fitness activities, and working closely with legislators and public policy stakeholders to represent and grow the industry.
